Cornerstone Design, a professional interior design consulting firm, is pleased to announce that President Suzie Hall, ASID, LEED AP, has been named the winner of Best Residential project in the 2008 Intermountain Chapter American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) Design Excellence awards.  This prestigious award was achieved for excellence in design for the Gomez residence in Bown Crossing of Boise, Idaho.

The Gomez family home was designed around an active family of 5.  Ms. Hall achieved optimal functionality and beauty in creating a home that the family greatly enjoys.  Durable surfaces are designed to look sleek and modern while being tough enough to handle active kids.  Each child’s personal style and interests are reflected in their bedrooms.  The home is designed for comfort and entertainment for both the adults and children, indoors and out.

Ms. Hall has many ideas for creating a home that is better for the environment and very family-friendly.  She incorporated many of these concepts into her personal home so that clients and potential clients could see firsthand the results.  Her combination of modern elements with warmer materials has created an environment the entire family wants to come home to.

  1. Fabric samples – turned into pillows and a patchwork doll-quilt.
  2. Fabric samples on the card-rings are serving as Fabric Store play things.
  3. Paint chip cards – are perfect for playing design store – and are big enough to draw on as individual “canvas” pages.
  4. Tile samples and flooring – peeled off the original display boards they become squares for counting and pattern making. Plans include glue and paper for patterns too.
  5. Carpet samples – have been turned into play house and doll house carpeting.
  6. Wood Blind samples – taken out of the holder, they are now in the block-set for building ramps or roofing.
  7. The 4 and 5 –ring binder/book handles from some of the big display books have been cut apart and delivered to the neighborhood Kindergarten teach who uses such things for big-books illustrated by the kids and sent home to each house for “reading and review comments” — These are GREAT binder/board/handle which serve as binding/spine improvements for what had been worn-out in the circulation of the kids.
  8. Ongoing samples – each year Kindergarten teachers create learning centers. Some teachers include a “home building/design” center in their rotation. So, we’d love to keep getting items and be able to forward them to our Kindergartner’s classroom. Perhaps other schools would be interested too.

On October 22, 2008, BetterBricks, in partnership with the Idaho Business Review and Idaho Power, will honor this year’s recipients of the BetterBricks awards.  These award recipients represent professionals who create energy efficient strategies that include green building such as LEED certified projects.

Suzie Hall is this year’s winner of the 2008 “Better Bricks Award” in the “Emerging Leader” category.

BetterBricks is sponsored by Idaho Power and the goal is to help business professionals understand the power of energy and efficiency in making a difference in new building construction and remodeling.  It’s about making buildings work harder and smarter.

Congratulations to Suzie for her hard work and commitment to becoming a leader in the design industry in creating energy efficient living!

Cornerstone Design is pleased to announce that Crystal Arreola has recently received her LEED accreditation from the US Green Building Council, recognizing her thorough understanding of green building practices and principles and the LEED Green Building Rating System.  Ms. Arreola brings an extensive design background to the firm, and will assist on projects including corporate, mixed-use, medical and residential.

The latest issue of From House To Home featured Suzie Hall, LEED AP, ASID, and president of Cornerstone Design in an article about building and remodeling “green.”  It is something everyone needs to think about and begin to implement.

Suzie Hall is LEED accredited which is extremely important when designing or remodeling a project.  The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating System, developed by the U.S Green Building Council (USGBC), provides a suite of standards for environmentally sustainable construction.

Most of us know about the energy efficient appliances, but do we know about the myriad of other products that have a significant impact on our environment?  According to Hall, people are becoming aware of the significance of environmentally safe goods that have an effect on our families, communities, and planet!

Becoming “green” is a change in principles and attitude.  I think we all want to be a part of the solution that helps to secure a greener future for our children and their children.  Cost may be an issue for some people, however, if you are thinking long-term it’s definitely affordable.

Hall says, “Creating a beautiful space is wonderful, but designing a healthy and beautiful space is much better.”  It certainly makes sense!
